Autism affects us all

Khalil's Journey

Please assist me in getting Stem Cell Therapy

I was born on January 31, 2006 in Ottawa Ontario to the proud mother of Kristen. My first year was a little difficult being diagnosed with a small heart condition called PAC and having apnea spells so young was scary for my Mom. I stayed in the hospital for a few weeks back and forth, and finally got better around 11 months. I even said a few words like mama and nana. At about 14 months I stopped talking and went into my own world. My mom has her theories but realistically nobody knows why this happen to me. My mom one night was watching Extreme Homemaker (one of her favs on tv) when she seen Ty and his team building a home for a family with 5 autistic children. This episode changed my Moms life forever, it all sunk in and she went into a depression. The next day she called the doctor and told them she seen a show with the kids doing all the same movements and behaviours as I was. Within a few weeks I was off to my doctor where they told my mom just maybe, we need another referral to Ottawa Childrens Treatment Center. After nearly four months we got an appointment with Dr.  Nair who confirmed my moms suspicions. Well my Mom knew this and had been in the depression for the past few months and decided she needed to take action. My mother has tried many diets with me such as Gluten free, B12 diet, and Dha. Mom has also tried Speech therapy, IBI, and Occupational Therapy, unfortunately I am not receptive to these forms of treatment.
In July 2010 I was also given the dignosis of Global Developmental Delay on top of autism. I get upset alot and very frustrated because no one ever knows when I am sick,(my ear drums has perforated eight times due to lack of communication)  when my tummy hurts,  if I am hungry, or if I want to go to the park. No one understands why I dont eat real food.
My mom has done nearly two years of research and really thinks that Stem Cell treatment may help take these frustrations away. I know I will never be cured and that some people are negative about the whole idea, but come on nothing in life is gaurenteed and to be honest there are side effects in everything. I trust that my mom knows what she is doing and I would love to get this opportunity. I know that stem cells are the way for the future in certain aspects and this might be one of them, please give me this chance. As of February 4, 2011 I have raised over $4100.00 in total with my moms savings, and I know that there is a long way to go, but it is such a small price to pay if this will help my life in anyway. I love my family so much and one day I want to tell my mom how much I appreciate her in some form of communication. Thank you for listening to my story and please consider making a donation to help me.
